Meet Our Renowned Guest Speaker

Dr. Thomas K. Sleweon was born on July 24, 1961 in Harper,
Maryland County, Liberia. At the age of 3, Thomas moved to Monrovia with his
parents. He attended a number of elementary schools between 1967 and 1972. In
1973, he enrolled at St. Patrick's High School as a seventh grader which
culminated in graduation in the year 1978. The University of Liberia was his
next stop where he entered the College of Science and Technology as a student of
pre-medical studies. In 1981, Thomas began his first of five years as a student
at the A. M. Dogliotti College of Medicine from where he was awarded the degree
of Doctor of Medicine with cum laude honors in 1985. The young doctor did a
rotating internship at the J. F. Kennedy Medical Center in Monrovia, Liberia in
1986 followed by residency in the Department of Internal Medicine also at the
same medical center. In August of 1987, Dr. Sleweon immigrated to the United
States for advancement of his medical studies. The next three years from 1988 to
1991, Dr. Sleweon served as an internal medicine resident at St. Francis and
Helene Fuld Hospitals in Trenton, New Jersey. After completion of his three year
residency, Dr. Sleweon then entered the University of Medicine and Dentistry of
New Jersey where he did a two year fellowship program in the specialty of
infectious diseases. In 1993, when all of his training was completed, Dr.
Sleweon moved to northwest Indiana where he is currently in private practice.
Dr. Sleweon is currently founder and president of Infectious Disease
Specialists, p.c., a medical corporation based in Highland, Indiana.
Dr. Sleweon is member of a number of organizations including the Liberian
Medical Association, Lake County Medical Society, the American College of
Physicians, the Infectious Disease Society of America, the Association of
African Physicians of Northwest Indiana and is a staff physician at multiple
hospitals in Indiana. When Dr. Sleweon is not actively practicing medicine, he
is involved in the teaching of medical students, medical doctors in training,
nursing and pharmacy student as well as supporting the activities of various
civic and humanitarian organizations.
Dr. Sleweon is married to Eunice Perry Sleweon and has three children.
